Marienchurch - the landmark and the symbol in the coat of Arms and the official seal of the town
The oldest building in the town is the church “Saint Marien”. Throughout the history of this church there rank lots of legends and stories. The church is worth to visit because of its romaneque style and the valuable historic furniture.
For a long time the church had been abondoned to disrepair. In the end of the 1980s the restauration began and was completed with the help of public funds after 1990. In 1993 bishop Reinel reinaugurated the church. Since that time the church has been used as a chapel again. The fascinating ornamental painting of the ceiling and the ceiling cope are unique in Saxony.
