Birth place of the father of material testing, of the founder of modern engineers' education

Carl-von-Bach-Haus

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carl von Bach is a honorary citizen of the city Stuttgart and of the town Stollberg. He was born as the son of a carriage constructor in Stollberg on 8th March 1847.
Nobody could really anticipate that he would found the modern engineers` education one day.

Carl von Bach (page in German) had been the rector of the university of Stuttgart, chairperson and honorary chairperson of the association of german engineers and a cofounder of the technical supervision association for decades - today safety standards authority and founder of the state material test institution of Stuttgart as well as decisive adviser with the construction of the German Museum in Munich.

Among his closest and best friends one could find, for example, Graf Zeppelin, Rudolf Diesel, the brothers Daimler and Robert Bosch.

From the employees you can also obtain information about events, excursions, accommodations and many other things about Stollberg and the area around the town.

In the year 1997 the town Stollberg celebrated the 150th birthday of Carl von Bach with an international academical conference. The grammar school "Carl-von-Bach-Gymnasium" of Stollberg had been dedicated its name to the honour of this conference. At the same time Stollberg started the restauration of the birth house of Bach. After the successful renewel it reopened on 15th April in 2000.
